Spotsylvania Supervisors Declare Local State of Emergency

At a March 17th emergency meeting, the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors voted 7-0 to declare a local state of emergency to increase flexibility and ease resources to the County as needed. Additionally, the Board voted 7-0 to cancel their scheduled March 24th Board of Supervisors meeting.

The March 31st Budget Public Hearing at Courtland High School is still planned to be held as advertised. At County staff’s request, the Board of Supervisors voted 7-0 to suspend their bylaws to allow staff to develop safe procedures and ways for citizens to speak at the budget public hearing. County Government meetings are not subject to the Governor’s executive order limiting gatherings to 10 people; however, for citizen’s safety, County staff is developing plans to adhere to the spirit of that order, while ensuring citizens can voice their opinion about the budget.
