Spotsylvania County Government Offices Closing 8am March 20th.

COUNTY OFFICES CLOSING 8AM MARCH 20

Spotsylvania announces the closures of all county buildings to the public, beginning 8 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2020, until further notice. The action is in response to continued concerns over the spread of novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19. The closures apply only to areas accessed by the public. Staff will continue working Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to meet needs of the community and county government.

"The health and safety of our residents and employees are our top priorities," says County Administrator Ed Petrovitch. "These closures will help to lessen the spread of the virus, while continuing to serve our citizens by providing services online, via phone and by appointment, if necessary."  

The closures do not affect county convenience centers or the Livingston Landfill. 

The Spotsylvania Treasurer’s Office, Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue and the Sheriff’s Office announced yesterday they would close their lobbies to the public beginning today, March 19, 2020, while continuing normal operations.

Spotsylvania County Parks and Recreation has CLOSED all community centers and CANCELED all programs, events and sports through March 31. Parks and reservoirs are OPEN with normal operating hours. 

The public is encouraged to support our local businesses during these economically challenging times by purchasing gift cards and/or ordering takeout meals from county restaurants. A list of Spotsylvania County restaurants offering curbside takeout can be found at www.visitspotsy.com/curbside. Water Services

Spotsylvania Utilities began suspending all water and sewer cutoffs for non-payment or late payment reasons March 9 and will continue that practice through the next two billing cycles.

Courts

Spotsylvania County continues to be in frequent contact with the Virginia Department of Health through the Rappahannock Area Health District & Virginia Department of Emergency Management to receive updates on the latest developments of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). 

To lower the risk of respiratory germ spread, including COVID-19, the Virginia Department of Health encourages the following effective behaviors:

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Avoid contact with sick people.

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Practice social distancing, staying at least 6 feet away from others.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces.
