In 2007, I enlisted in the U.S. Army during a time of war when the military was implementing the highly unpopular “stop-loss” policy—preventing service members from separating after their enlistment was complete. I served in Iraq and Afghanistan, where I was responsible for gathering, analyzing, and presenting critical information to military leaders. My role wasn’t on the frontlines conducting patrols, but it was no less important – I ensured that our commanders had clear, actionable intelligence to make high-stakes decisions. That job required long hours and the ability to build partnerships across diverse groups.
After my military service, I volunteered to return to Afghanistan as a defense contractor, where I spent 11 of 17 months providing analytic products and briefings to senior military leadership, to include the Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. This experience taught me how to navigate complex, often conflicting information and bring people together to achieve a common goal.
And this is exactly what we need on the School Board.
Our students’ futures are high-stakes, and their success requires clear, thoughtful decision-making, collaboration, and a commitment to the long hours necessary to make sure needs are met.
As a Board member, I’ll apply the same strategic thinking, dedication, and leadership that I learned in the military to ensure that our students have the resources and support they need to achieve their highest potential.
This isn’t just about policies — it’s about partnerships. Partnerships with fellow Board members, local leaders, and our community to advocate for our students at the local, state, and federal level. It’s about being dedicated to our students’ success, and that means doing whatever it takes to ensure they have the best education possible.
Let’s take SCPS to the top!
