At the January 8th Board of Supervisors meeting, Salem District Supervisor Paul Trampe announced he will be seeking a third term in November. In 2011, Supervisor Trampe defeated Donald Holmes 53% to 46%. In 2015, Supervisor Trampe was unopposed.
With this announcement, Supervisor Trampe became the third Supervisor in recent history to use their Board Report to make a campaign announcement. In recent months, Supervisor Benton has spoken on at least one occasion that he is seeking reelection. In 2017, Supervisor Skinner made a similar such announcement. While no rules or laws were broken, is using a County Board meeting – intended to conduct County business – an appropriate venue to make what is essentially a campaign announcement?
