Since 2015, I’ve proudly served as a member of the Spotsylvania Lions Club — an organization with nearly 60 years of service to Spotsy. Over the years, I’ve held multiple leadership roles including Youth Sight Coordinator, Secretary, and twice, Club President.
Some of you may already be familiar with the Lions Club; others may not. For those who aren't, we have a strong and longstanding presence in Spotsylvania County, particularly in partnership with Spotsylvania County Public Schools. For decades, we’ve worked alongside school nurses to help facilitate vision screenings, eye exams, and provide eyeglasses to students — all at no cost to families. We’ve also been consistent contributors to the SCPS Treasure House, an initiative that supports students and families experiencing homelessness and have donated close to $10k to the Fredericksburg Food Bank since 2020 to help families in need. Additionally, we’ve awarded scholarships annually to graduating Spotsy seniors.
I don’t take individual credit for these accomplishments — they’re the result of a committed team working together over many years. But I highlight them to show my ability to work within large groups, manage budgets, raise funds, and follow through on commitments to ensure essential services are delivered. Simply put, my involvement demonstrates a deep commitment to serving causes bigger than myself. While I’ve led in official roles, I’ve also been a behind-the-scenes teammate when needed — because leadership is just as much about listening and supporting as it is about guiding.
So how does this relate to serving on the School Board?
Campaigns are full of promises — but the reality is that each board member is just one of seven. No single person can create meaningful change in isolation. To truly make an impact, you must be able to build consensus and collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
My time with the Lions has given me that experience. I’ve worked closely with school nurses, learned firsthand about the challenges facing students and families in need, and developed leadership skills that are essential for School Board service. In less than three years, I earned the trust of my fellow members to be elected President for two consecutive terms.
Now, I hope to bring that same spirit of collaboration and service to the School Board — to help ensure every student in Spotsylvania County has access to a high-quality education and the support they need to thrive.
