For 17 years, I have proudly served our country—on the battlefield and later in our community—grounded in a nonnegotiable value: integrity.
If we are going to elevate every student to their highest academic potential, we must face the truth head-on, even when it’s uncomfortable. Defending the truth also means standing up to mistruths. If I cannot do that as a candidate, how could you trust me to defend our students’ right to a quality education—or our educators’ right to fair compensation and a professional work environment?
Throughout this campaign, I have acknowledged the contributions of Mr. Lieberman to our schools and our community—because that is the honest and respectful thing to do. Unfortunately, that honesty has not been reciprocated. His campaign has repeatedly promoted misinformation and false narratives.
One of the most persistent misrepresentations is that Mr. Lieberman is the only independent candidate in this race. He knows this is not true. Our opponent, Ms. Pickover, actively sought and accepted the Democratic Party endorsement. Meanwhile, I am running an independent campaign—without party backing and without outside influence. To ignore that fact and continue presenting himself as the sole independent shows Mr. Lieberman believes it is that easy to manipulate you. And frankly, if this behavior is rewarded, we should expect more of the same behavior from Mr. Lieberman on the School Board - because he continues to demonstrate this is just who he is.
I do agree with Mr. Lieberman on one point: we do need political independence on the School Board. But independence requires honesty—not manipulation. Campaigning with distortions only undermines public trust and sets a troubling example for the students and educators we seek to support.
As an analyst for the Department of War, I’m held to a high standard of integrity that extends to every aspect of my life. I’m also required to remain strictly independent of party politics. Put simply, engaging in deception or political maneuvering—on the School Board—could jeopardize my employment. Mr. Lieberman operates without those same constraints.
For the record, I do not enjoy writing messages like this. I would much rather be debating the real issues facing our classrooms. But I will never shrink from my responsibility to stand up for the truth, our schools, our educators, and—most importantly—our students.
