On May 29th, the Spotsylvania School Board and Board of Supervisors will hold a joint work session. Board of Supervisors Chair Benton has been advocating to have better dialogue with the School Board since he took over as Chair in January. Recently, School Board Chair Grampp offered to hold a joint work session on May 29th. At the May 22nd Board meeting, this was accepted 7-0 by the Supervisors.
The meeting will be held at the Holbert Building on May 29th at 6 p.m.
There are no set discussion topics on the agenda. In the past, the Board of Supervisors have expressed an interest in combining services between the schools and county to save money. It is also expected that one topic of discussion will be the recent criticism directed at the School Board for allegedly “hiding funds” from the Board of Supervisors during budget deliberations. On May 8, Courtland District Supervisor Ross presented this information to the public at a Board meeting. At this Board meeting there were no School officials present to provide an explanation. Since then School Finance staff has provided briefings to the public covering how these funds were identified.
