As the independent investigation continues, we must choose not to follow those that seek to divide us. My experience as an intelligence analyst has taught me many lessons. One of the most important, is the price that is paid when we rush to judgement, when we are overtaken by assumptions and ignore facts, and when we stop seeking the truth. Those instances I found myself in, like this one, demand the greatest of our restraint to fight our natural tendencies that too often can lead to our collective demise.

The only truth we know right now is that Isaiah Brown was shot multiple times by a Spotsylvania Sheriff Deputy. A lot of what is circulating in the community is based on assumptions. The truth is that the independent investigation, if given time, should allow for the facts to surface. For all those directly touched by this tragedy, we must allow that process to take its course.

In the moment, I am aware there is nothing of great importance I can do, other than attempt to give a glimpse of the leader I plan to be if elected. One that does not ignore potentially inflammatory issues, because conventional wisdom suggests that a person should avoid them. That cannot be the path chosen by someone that wants to be a community leader. As this situation develops, I will continue to share credible information as I see it.

My thoughts are with the Brown family and I hope for Isaiah’s full recovery.
