What Sparked the Recent Supervisors Concern With Struggling Spotsylvanians?

In the last month, several Spotsy Supervisors have discussed this report more publicly than they have in the 2 plus years it has been in circulation. I'm left asking myself why Courtland Supervisor David Ross has suddenly felt the need to champion the cause of the struggling in our community after years of neglect?

If you scroll through this page you will see numerous attempts to generate attention over the last three years to those struggling in our community (this 2017 post is one example). As an individual that has invested a considerable amount of time trying to help the community, I must highlight what appears to be the use of the most vulnerable for political purposes.

If there is such great need to protect those struggling, than why have these supervisors only become interested in them when faced with the political adversity of a 7-penny tax increase in the County Administrator's recommended budget? 5 cents of which is directly attributed to their vote approving last years Public Safety Compensation plan.

Two conclusions can be drawn. One, they just identified this struggling population after close to a decade as a community leader; or two, there was never much to gain politically by highlighting them until now. Both reflect poorly on them as leaders.

If the Board of Supervisors wants to talk about supporting those struggling, then lets pull in community stakeholders and start a discussion. Short of that, speaking publicly about wanting to help and not backing that up with true action, makes a mockery of the people on the front lines trying to make a difference and most especially those experiencing the hardships.
