For those that have not had a chance to review Spotsylvania’s budget yet, 5 of the near 7 cents proposed tax increase is identified to cover a Public Safety Compensation Plan that the Board voted to support last year 7-0. It is my understanding the pay plan did not make our public safety personnel the highest paid, but more competitively paid. In future years, less turnover will likely lead to less overtime that will reduce budget costs. The Board’s vote to approve this plan last year was the easy part. The hard part is supporting the plan when the bill comes due. The results of good investment in our County Departments are clear in this article.
