County Trash Decal Initiative Reversed

Country Trash Decal Update: On November 17, the Board of Supervisors reversed a previous decision to charge County residents $3 to acquire a decal to permit trash dumping at County convenience sites. Board Chair Gary Skinner (Lee Hill) stated that ultimately the decal will likely be free and provided to all County residents in their 2021 June personal property tax bills. Also at the November Board meeting, Livingston Supervisor Barry Jett motioned to create a panel that included two supervisors (Livingston Barry Jett and Chancellor Tim McLaughlin) and County staff to discuss future plans in more detail. The motion passed with an expected return date to the Board of Supervisors for review at the first meeting in January 2021.

In 2005, the County began the discussion that ultimately led to the removal the County decal for trash dumping. Interestingly, the Board Chair at the time expressed concern that removing the decal requirement could lead to out of County residents dumping at County sites, which based on several Supervisors is what ended up occurring.
