Spotsylvania Coalition Continues Push for Equality

On October 13th, the Board of Supervisors unanimously supported a non-discrimination proclamation that stated that the board will “promote cultural understanding” and “commits to addressing and working to eliminate intolerance and discrimination” in the community.

This is a positive step for the community, but it will be important to see the next steps the Board or individual supervisors take to put this proclamation into action. There was support expressed to continue discussions with the Ministers Coalition but it needs to be much more than that to achieve the proclamation’s objectives.

A Vote Parade will be held later this week on Oct. 24. Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. at John J. Wright Educational & Cultural center at 7565 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania. Participants will head to the registrar’s office at 10 a.m.
