"A Hunger to Help" series highlights Food Insecurity in Fredericksburg Region
About a week ago, Cathy Dyson of the Free Lance-Star authored a three-part series on food insecurity in the Fredericksburg region. These articles are informative and provide a starting point for those looking to lend a helping hand and those in need of one. According to standards set by the Department of Agriculture, as many as 31,000 people in the Fredericksburg region lack enough food to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In response, over 54 churches, 36 schools, and 7 local agencies have regular food give-away. In fiscal year 2018, the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank distributed 4 million pounds of food to approximately 34,000 people.
