The Women Who Integrated
Seven African-American girls were chosen in 1963 to be the first to integrate into previously all-white Spotsylvania County schools. The switched from the then-John J. Wright School to new high and elementary schools.

Charlene Pendleton Chew, class of 1965.
Rita Pendleton, class of 1968.
Robert E. Lee Elementary School
Cassandra Johnson Terrell. Spotsylvania High class of 1972.
Sharon Taylor McGlone. Spotsylvania class of 1972.
Karen Williams Woodward. Spotsylvania class of 1972.
