Transportation Deal Clears Way for North-Bound Rappahannock River Crossing Project
On January 10th, Governor McAuliffe announced that a deal was reached with Transurban which included an extension of the Express Lanes to Exit 133 and an influx of money to build the coveted I-95 North-Bound Rappahannock River Crossing project that scored poorly in the past two iterations of SMARTSCALE.
The 10-mile Express Lanes extension is expected to cost Transurban $450 million. Transurban is expected to provide $277 million to the state for regional transportation projects, one of which is the $130 million estimated price of the North-Bound River Crossing project to compliment the already approved South-Bound Rappahannock River Crossing project. On January 10th, the contract for this project was awarded with construction estimated to start in the summer of 2018.
